My ideal client has some insight and understands that therapy is work. It's not just about having me (or anyone else) solve their problems -- it's something that has to be done jointly. They also need to be willing to listen and change.
I meet the client where they currently are, and help to normalize their feelings. I will challenge thoughts and feelings that are unhealthy or harmful to the client. I am client-centered, and I believe that positive reinforcement and unconditional positive regard makes it a more comfortable environment in which to make changes.
I truly enjoy working with people and helping them work through any issues in order to become a happier person. Feel free to reach out to me, and I will do my best to help you work through your issues in a healthy, supportive environment.
Hello, I am Brian Caputo (Registered Associate Marriage and Family Therapist), AMFT #142966, and I graduated in 2023 with my Master's Degree in Psychology from Brandman University. I have experience working with elementary-aged children, teenagers, and adults in various settings. I utilize an eclectic treatment methodology that blends a strength-based approach with cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and solution-focused brief therapy (SFBT), both complemented by motivational interviewing (MI).
"In my therapeutic work, I often integrate Motivational Interviewing to foster collaboration and autonomy. By using open-ended questions, reflective listening, and affirmations, I help clients explore their own motivations for change. This approach aligns with a strength-based perspective, as it emphasizes the client's inherent capacity for growth and their ability to make meaningful choices that align with their values and goals".
By incorporating Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, I help clients develop greater awareness of how their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors interact. Through a strength-based lens, CBT interventions focus on enhancing clients' problem-solving skills, promoting adaptive thinking patterns, and reinforcing positive behavioral changes. Rather than labeling clients as broken or deficient, I support them in recognizing their capacity to learn, adapt, and thrive.
By weaving together MI, SFBT, and CBT, I create a collaborative, empowering environment where clients feel valued and capable. The strength-based foundation of my work ensures that interventions build on what is already working in the client's life, fostering resilience, agency, and lasting change.
